Welcome

As Special Agent in Charge of the Omaha Division of the FBI, I welcome you to our website and the information contained herein. We have developed this website as a way to provide the community we serve and the general public with information about our office, the mission of the FBI, and links to other law enforcement agencies.

Mission

The FBI, as the principal investigative arm of the Department of Justice (DOJ), has investigative jurisdiction over more than 200 categories of federal crimes.

The mission of the FBI is to uphold the law through the investigation of violations of Federal criminal law; to protect the United States from foreign intelligence and terrorist activities; to provide leadership and law enforcement assistance to federal, state, local, and international agencies; and to perform these responsibilities in a manner that is responsive to the needs of the public and is faithful to the constitution of the United States. To accomplish our mission we depend upon the cooperation and support of those we serve as well as partnerships with other law enforcement agencies. We cannot accomplish our law enforcement mission alone. Therefore, I encourage the public to support our mission by providing information about possible violations of Federal law.

Office Demographics

The Omaha Division is responsible for conducting investigations within our Federal jurisdiction throughout the states of Iowa and Nebraska, encompassing more than 133,234 square miles and a population of over 4.6 million. Our division covers three federal judicial districts: the District of Nebraska, the Northern District of Iowa, and the Southern District of Iowa. The Omaha Division's headquarters is located in Omaha, Nebraska. In addition to our main office, we also have eight resident agency offices throughout Nebraska and Iowa in: Cedar Rapids, Quad Cities, Des Moines, Waterloo and Sioux City, Iowa; and Grand Island, Lincoln and North Platte, Nebraska.

These nine offices are located throughout the two states to provide those citizens desiring personal contact as much accessibility as possible given the large geographical area that the FBI covers.

The accompanying pages will provide you with specific territory assignments of our main office in Omaha, as well as our resident agencies in Nebraska and Iowa. Additionally, we are including the surrounding FBI field offices to assist you in locating the office nearest you for more personal contact.

Employment Opportunities

I have been an FBI Special Agent for over 20 years and have found it to be an extremely rewarding career. If you are interested in a career with the FBI, I encourage you to review the web pages on employment opportunities, as well as the information maintained on the FBI's main website page. The FBI has two career paths: Special Agents and professional support. Each career path provides unique challenges and opportunities to serve the FBI, our communities and our country. To apply on-line for specific professional support vacancies at FBI Headquarters and in the 56 field offices as well as for information on FBI policies and practices, please visit the FBI's Employment site.

Community Outreach

Within the past decade, the FBI has initiated a Community Outreach program to develop and maintain a closer relationship to the community we serve. We now have education based programs at schools as well as provide speakers to groups. I encourage you to review those pages for more detailed information.

Investigative Matters

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is the investigative arm of the US Department of Justice. The FBI’s investigative authority can be found in Title 28, Section 533 of the US Code. Additionally, there are other statutes, such as the Congressional Assassination, Kidnapping, and Assault Act (Title 18, US Code, Section 351), which give the FBI responsibility to investigate specific crimes. The priorities of the FBI are:

  1. Protect the United States from terrorist attack.
  2. Protect the United States against foreign intelligence operations and espionage.
  3. Protect the United States against cyber-based attacks and high-technology crimes.
  4. Combat public corruption at all levels.
  5. Protect civil rights.
  6. Combat transnational and national criminal organizations and enterprises.
  7. Combat major white-collar crime.
  8. Combat significant violent crime.
  9. Support federal, state, county, municipal, and international partners.
  10. Upgrade technology to successfully perform the FBI’s mission.

Since no single law enforcement agency is sufficiently staffed to address all the crime threats above, the FBI is an active member of many task forces throughout Nebraska and Iowa formed to combat specific crimes.

I encourage you to browse through those pages covering our investigative responsibilities to learn more about our work and partnerships.

For further information, please feel free to contact us by telephone, via the internet, or in person.
