Council Bluffs Man Charged with Omaha Bank Robbery
United States Attorney Joe W. Stecher, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Omaha
Police Department announce the following information for the attention of the media:
Event Triggering this Release: On August 6, 2009, a criminal complaint was filed charging Michael Hymes, age 29 of Council
Bluffs, Iowa, with bank robbery in connection with the robbery of the First National Bank of
Omaha branch located at 2930 South 24 Street on August 4, 2009. According to an affidavit
filed in support of the complaint, Hymes wore a wig and sunglasses and entered the bank where
he demanded money from a teller. The affidavit alleges that Hymes was located after authorities
tracked down a woman who attempted to exchange dye stained money at a bank branch in
Council Bluffs. Subsequent investigation led authorities back to Hymes. Hymes will appear
before United States Magistrate Judge Thomas D. Thalken for his initial appearance on Friday,
August 7, 2009, at 2:30.
