Davenport, IA- On October 12, 2007, Jason Cain Tallon, age 29, of Cedar Rapids, was sentenced to 90 months imprisonment for bank robbery, announced United States Attorney Matthew G. Whitaker. United States District Judge John A. Jarvey also ordered Tallon to serve three years on supervised release following imprisonment, pay $66,750 in restitution to the Exchange State Bank in Shueyville, Iowa and to pay an assessment of $100.00 to the Crime Victim Fund. Early on the morning of July 5, 2002, Tallon, with a ski mask covering his face, waited in a field near the Exchange State Bank in Shueyville, Iowa. Tallon was aware of security systems at the bank and the time employees arrived to open the bank. When a teller arrived, parked behind the bank, and unlocked a rear door, Tallon entered behind the teller, placed an apparent handgun (later determined to be a pellet gun) to the teller’s head, and threatened to kill her. Holding the gun to the back of the teller’s head, Tallon forced the teller to open the vault. He then restrained the teller with duct tape, leaving her on the floor, and took over $66,000 in cash from the vault. Tallon again threatened the teller while demanding her vehicle keys. Taking the keys, Tallon stole the teller’s vehicle and left the area. The vehicle was later found some distance from the bank, where Tallon abandoned it after switching to his own car. Media Release October 15, 2007 During an investigation that would span four and one-half years, FBI Agents investigated numerous leads and potential suspects and searched numerous locations for evidence. One of those locations included having police divers search a river bottom in Johnson County for potential evidence. In early 2007, investigators determined that Tallon was the robber. He was confronted by FBI agents in February 2007 and admitted committing the crime. Tallon was indicted on February 15, 2007, and pleaded guilty as charged on April 13, 2007. This case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Iowa and investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Johnson County Sheriff Office. - - - End - - - |
