Iowa City Man Sentenced on Child Pornography Charges

Davenport, IA- On August 2, 2007, Matthew Marshall Powills, 44, of Iowa City, was sentenced to 240 months imprisonment for one count of Receiving Child Pornography, and 120 months imprisonment for one count of Possessing Child Pornography, with 22 months of the sentence on the latter charge to be served consecutively to the 240 month term, for a total sentence of 262 months imprisonment, announced United States Attorney Matthew G. Whitaker. United States District Judge John A. Jarvey also ordered that 180 months of Powills’ federal sentence would be consecutive to a state sentence that Powills is currently serving for convictions related to the sexual abuse of a minor. Judge Jarvey further ordered that Powills remain on federal supervised release for the rest of his life following his incarceration.

This case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa. This investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Coralville, Iowa Police Department.
