Murray Man Appears On Bank Robbery Charge

DES MOINES - On January 29, 2007, Matthew Haden Waddle, age 30, of Murray, was charged in a Criminal Complaint with bank robbery, announced United States Attorney Matthew G. Whitaker. On January 30, 2007, Waddle appeared before United States Magistrate Judge Ross A. Walters, who ordered Waddle held without bond pending the outcome of a detention hearing on February 9, 2007. If convicted, Waddle will face up to twenty-five years in prison.

On January 22, 2007, at approximately 9:10 a.m. the Union State Bank, located at 160 East Garfield, Truro, Iowa, was robbed by a lone male. The robber had a small, black pistol in his right hand which he pointed at the teller. A citizen observed a suspicious man later identified as Waddle come from the direction of bank and get in a truck parked nearby. The citizen reported the truck’s description to law enforcement and Waddle was arrested by Iowa State Troopers a short time later just outside of Truro. Evidence was subsequently found in Waddle’s truck and in a ditch near where Waddle’s vehicle was first observed by the Troopers. The stolen money was recovered.

As with any case, an indictment is merely an accusation and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

This investigation was conducted by the Iowa State Patrol, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
